Why is vitamin C so important for the skin?

I wanted to put something fun together for you all to enjoy. It is so easy to hear all this stuff about products, ingredients, treatments but not always understand why we need to use these things, how they work or the best way to use them. Also different treatments and the benefits. So I have decided to put something special together for all my ladies to help. So hopefully this will be something you look forward to opening each month.

I thought we could start with a ingredient we often hear about

Why is vitamin C so important for the skin?

Vitamin C is an important nutrient for the skin for several reasons:

  1. Antioxidant protection: Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can help protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Free radicals can cause damage to the skin cells, leading to a breakdown in the skin's natural barrier function, and contribute to the signs of ageing.

  2. Collagen synthesis: Vitamin C plays a key role in the synthesis of collagen, a protein that gives the skin its firmness and elasticity. As we age, the skin's natural collagen production decreases, leading to sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. By providing the skin with an adequate supply of Vitamin C, you can help to stimulate collagen synthesis and maintain the skin's youthful appearance.

  3. Brightening: Vitamin C can help to brighten the skin and even out skin tone by inhibiting the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for dark spots. This can help to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots, and leave the skin looking brighter and more radiant.

  4. Inflammation reduction: Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for those with acne-prone or sensitive skin. It can help to soothe skin irritation and reduce redness, promoting a clearer and more even complexion.

  5. UV protection: Vitamin C can help to protect the skin from the damaging effects of UV radiation, a major contributor to skin ageing. By neutralising free radicals generated by UV exposure, Vitamin C can help to prevent skin damage and protect against the signs of ageing.

Overall, Vitamin C is an essential nutrient for the skin, and incorporating it into your skin care routine can help to maintain a healthy and youthful complexion.

There are so many different formations of these products in moisturisers and serums. The strengths also vary depending on the brands. My personal advise is it really depends on what your current skincare routine is and if it suits you to add in via a moisturiser or a serum. I am always happy to discuss this in more detail one to one, So please ask its never a problem. Below are some of my personal favourites.
